Biography

Okey Samuel Mbonu was a visiting scholar at American University, Washington, DC. He earned his JD at the University of District of Columbia, School of Law in Washington, DC. 

As a Consultant, he has provided services and testimony at the Africa Sub-Committee of the US Congressional Foreign Relations and
Global Health Committee; the Organization of American States (OAS); the media giant MSNBC; and international Think-Tanks such as the Woodrow Wilson International Center, Washington, DC.

In an earlier career, Mbonu was appointed a Commissioner for Housing & Community Development in Prince George's, Maryland, one of the largest suburban jurisdictions in the Washington DC suburbs, where he served until 2007. 

Mbonu is also co-founder and first president of the Nigerian-American Council, an entity founded to advocate for the interests of the Nigerian-American community in the United States. 

He is also an Author and Poet, with a published work, "The Sons of Thunder-An American Odyssey" (Published 2020). He has a passion for community empowerment via direct engagements with communities.
